THE HERMITAGE COMES TO THE PRADO.
The Hermitage in the Prado (8 November to 25 March, 2012, Prado Museum).
170 works have been selected from the Hermitage to provide a broad impression of the artistic and chronological variety of its collection, including archaeological pieces, decorative art, paintings, drawings and sculptures from the 5th century BC to the 20th century.
Being one of the largest museums in the world, the Hermitage is impressive both in terms of its vast collection and the spectacular group of palatial buildings where it is housed. The exhibition reveals some of the museum's most precious treasures to the Spanish public.
Paintings of note to be displayed are Titian's “St. Sebastian”, Caravaggio's “Lute Player”, Velazquez's “Peasants at Table” and Rembrandt's “Portrait of a Scholar”.
Sculptures include works by Bernini and Antonio Canova, and drawing is represented by Durer, Ingres and Rubens among others. Impressionism and post-impressionism are represented by Gauguin, Monet and Cézanne and there are works by Picasso and Kandinsky.
