The exhibition includes, for the first time, works by American artist, Maurice Prendergast, after two trips to Italy - the first in 1898, the second in 1911. The 50 works on display, including watercolors, oil paintings and monotypes, accompanied by photographs, films, travel guides and travel advertising, help to place the artist's work within the new visual culture that Americans adopted as early as the twentieth century . The exhibition of Prendergast in Italy offers new interesting ideas to understand the international character of modernism of the early '900 and a deeper understanding of the role played by Prendergast in the development of modern art in America.
